When browsing the range of bits, we often come across the word “Titanium”. However, we see two groups of products: exclusive, more expensive models made of solid titanium and those at an affordable price, shimmering in the colours of Rainbow or Gold.
How do they differ? Are we only paying for the colour? Or for space-age technology? We explain the difference between a bit made 100% of titanium and one “titanised” on the surface.

2. Rainbow and Gold bits (Titanium Finish) – Style and Durability
These bits are usually high-quality stainless steel that has been subjected to an anodising process or coated with a titanium layer. Thanks to this we obtain a beautiful “oil-slick” effect (Rainbow) or gold (Gold) at a price close to that of an ordinary bit.
Why are they better than ordinary steel?
- Harder surface: The titanium coating is harder than steel itself. Thanks to this the bit scratches more slowly and keeps its smoothness longer, which protects the corners of the mouth from chafing.
- Design: They look stunning! It is the simplest way to stand out in training.
- Price: You get a product that is more durable and prettier than ordinary steel without spending a fortune.
Note: These bits have a weight close to that of standard steel bits. If you are looking for “featherweight”, you have to choose the Solid Titanium version.
