Breastplates with Martingale

A breastplate with a martingale is an extremely practical option for riders who, on the one hand, need the corrective action of a martingale, and on the other, want to effectively prevent the saddle from slipping too far back during dynamic riding or show jumping.

Convenience and functionality of 2-in-1 tack

Thanks to the clever combination of these two elements into one (as in our proven Balotade® breastplates, e.g., the popular Shell model), putting them on and daily use is much faster and simpler. In such models, the main chest strap is usually quickly fastened to the girth using a durable snap hook.

A huge advantage of this solution is its modularity. The martingale attachment in the breastplate is usually completely detachable. This means that if necessary, you can easily remove it and use only the saddle-stabilizing breastplate itself during training.

Principle of operation and proper fitting

For the breastplate with martingale to work properly, aid in training, and be completely safe, it must be perfectly tailored to the horse's anatomy. Special attention should be paid to the following:

  • Too short martingale: It will unnaturally block the horse's movements, especially the free work of the neck and back. This is very harmful, especially during jumping, as it can provoke the animal to stiffen and jump with a so-called "hollow back".
  • Too long martingale: Not only will it not fulfill its basic corrective function, but it will also create a huge danger in the arena. In a fraction of a second, a horse can catch a hoof in a strap that is too loose, which threatens a very dangerous and tragic fall.

Take care of your own and your mount's safety by choosing a high-quality, adjustable leather breastplate with martingale that will allow for a perfect fit of the equipment to your current training needs.
