Long-Shanked Hackamore Balotade® Roma
This product is currently sold out.
Balotade® Roma is a long-shanked hackamore. The hackamore is a bitless bridle component that transfers pressure from inside the horse’s mouth to the nasal bone. Many horses prefer this type of contact and respond better to it — so if you don’t yet know which type of bit is right for your horse, the hackamore is a must-try.
It is the ideal solution for horses that do not accept the bit, as well as those with malocclusions or other issues that prevent a traditional bit from working properly. The hackamore also works very well as a temporary bridle in the period following tooth floating — a procedure that, as you know, should be performed at least once a year.
The nose piece is made of natural leather, lined with a very soft, thick pad. Its anatomical shape and optimal width guarantee a gentle action. The shanks are crafted entirely from stainless steel.
The hackamore is also available as a complete set with a matching bridle.

A hackamore is a special type of bitless bit that works mainly on the horse's nose, transferring pressure from the inside of the mouth to the nasal bone. It is an alternative to traditional bits, ideal for horses that do not accept bits or have health problems related to the oral cavity. The hackamore allows for precise contact with the horse, and its design allows for immediate release of pressure, which is beneficial in training.
The hackamore works on the principle of leverage, exerting pressure mainly on the horse's nose and poll and jaw. The longer the shanks, the greater the leverage and the stronger the effect. The place where the reins are attached is also important, as well as the type of nose and jaw straps used, which affects the intensity of pressure. The hackamore provides quick and clear signals for the horse.
The hackamore is a great solution for situations where the horse is not working well on the bit. Some horses may have difficulty accepting the bit due to pressure sensitivity, individual preferences or insufficient training. The hackamore works the nose, poll and chin, avoiding the sensitive areas in the mouth, making it a more comfortable and effective communication tool between rider and horse.
This solution also works when the horse cannot have anything in its mouth for health reasons. This applies to horses after teeth have been removed, with wounds or ulcers in the mouth, as well as those with irritated gums that need time to regenerate. Hackamore eliminates pressure on the horse's mouth, while allowing control and safe guidance of the animal.
The Hackamore Quick Bridle consists of two parts: The hackamore bridle and the hackamore itself. If you don't have either of these parts, you should buy the bridle without the "to" insert. If you have a hackamore, but don't have a headpiece to attach it to, choose a bridle with a "to" insert. On the other hand, if you already have a bridle to which you can attach the hackamore, then buy the Roma Hackamore alone.
The Balotade Quick Hackamore Bridle is suitable for use with the Roma hackamore, providing a stable fit and comfort for the horse.
The hackamore and the bridle for the hackamore are made of natural buffalo leather and stainless steel in the case of the shanks. Buffalo leather is characterized by high strength and elasticity, which ensures comfort of wearing and minimizes the risk of abrasions. Stainless steel, used for the shanks, guarantees durability and corrosion resistance, which allows for long-term use without losing aesthetics.
To ensure the longevity of your hackamore and bridle, you should clean and maintain them regularly. Leather parts should be impregnated with special leather products to prevent them from drying out and cracking. Before first use, leather parts should be thoroughly lubricated to keep them soft and flexible, which will prevent them from cracking during use. You should also avoid exposing your equipment to extreme temperatures and moisture.
