Gentle pressure on the tongue, precise steering and protected corners of the mouth – for horses with a sensitive mouth.

The Double jointed model with lip guards from the Balotade® Wing Argentan range is an anatomic bit with loose rings, in which the mouthpiece widens into broad plates where it meets the rings. Those plates solve a problem every rider working with a bit knows: a loose ring can gather and pinch the skin in the corner of the mouth.

Lip guards – an end to pinched lips

  • Broad plates on both sides of the mouthpiece separate the lip from the moving ring,

  • No pinching even during intensive work,

  • Gentle turns – the guard rests against the mouth and supports the action of your aids,

  • The bit does not slide sideways in the mouth,

  • No extra rubbers – the guard is part of the bit, not an accessory to buy separately.

    Anatomic shape

    • A mouthpiece shaped to the mouth – it does not lie straight but follows the line of the bars,

    • Less point pressure on the tongue and on the angle of the jaw,

    • 14 mm thickness – it spreads the pressure over a wider surface than thinner bits.

Double jointed mouthpiece – how it works

      • Two joints and a central link – the mouthpiece lies along the tongue instead of folding over it,

      • No nutcracker effect – the pressure is spread more gently than with a single jointed bit,

      • Each rein acts separately – more precise steering through turns,

      • For horses sensitive on the tongue and for those that run away from a single jointed bit.

Argentan – a warmer metal, more readily accepted

        • Argentan (nickel silver) is an alloy with a high copper content – a metal warmer in the mouth than steel,

        • It encourages salivation and chewing, which makes the bit easier to accept and helps work on a soft contact,

        • For horses with a dry mouth and for those reluctant to take a steel bit,

        • A warm, golden colour.
