Horse riding is a beautiful sport, but one that carries risk. While the helmet has already become standard, the question of stirrups still sparks debate. Is a classic, rigid metal stirrup enough? Or is it worth investing in a flexible (jointed) model?

This is not just a matter of fashion. It is a solution that works in two ways: it protects you from having your leg trapped during a fall and saves your knees from pain after training.

1. Every rider’s nightmare: getting trapped

In a classic, rigid stirrup, at the moment of a fall the foot can get stuck between the arch and the tread. This often happens when we fall sideways or forwards, and the rigid construction gives the foot no room to escape.

How do flexible stirrups work? These stirrups (visible in the photo with black covers on the sides) have special joints inside the arms.
