Construction of Balotade® McClellan Trail Saddle.
The entire saddle consists of leather-covered benches, high arches, without flaps and stirrups with stirrups. It is one of the lighter and ergonomic rally saddles approx. 6 kg.
The deep seat and the longitudinal hole in its center provide comfort for the horse’s back and great body ventilation for both the horse and the rider. This significantly reduces the risk of chafing.

History of the American McClellan Trail Saddle.
McClellan was used by the US military at the turn of the 20th century for about 100 years. This saddle was made by US Captain McClellan.
The captain is said to have been impressed by the hussar saddles he watched in Europe. McClellan has returned and developed a new, modified saddle for the American cavalry. In 1859, the US Military Department adopted the McClellan saddle as official cavalry equipment. Where it has been used regularly for many years.
The saddle was simple and cheaper than most previous models. It was light enough not to burden the horse, but also durable and provided good support for the rider and his equipment. In its original form, the seat was covered with raw leather, but this was changed in later incarnations.

We offer McClellan saddles in one of three seat sizes. You can choose the 16 “size for people with a smaller height and weight, through an intermediate, universal size 17”, and ending with large 18 “saddles.
This selection of seat sizes allows you to adjust the saddle to most riders. The spacing of the pommel is the same in each of the saddles. This is the average width which it should match and accommodate most normally built horses.
